Passport validity checker
Enter your passport's expiry date and your travel dates. We check the three rules that most often stop people at the airport: valid for the whole trip, the Schengen 3-month rule and the 6-month rule.
This is a guide, not legal advice. Entry rules depend on the destination and your nationality and can change — always check your government's official travel advice before you book.
The rules explained
- What is the 6-month passport rule?
- Many countries outside Europe ask that your passport is still valid for at least 6 months, counted from the day you arrive or the day you leave. If it is not, airlines can refuse to let you board.
- What is the Schengen 3-month rule?
- For the Schengen area, a passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave, and it must have been issued within the previous 10 years.
- Which rule applies to my trip?
- It depends on the destination and your nationality. EU citizens can travel within the EU on a valid ID card. Always check the official travel advice of your own government before you book.
